For those of us who attended metal shop ( especially the class of 76,77 & 78 ) Mr Sires probably left a perminate impression on us not only as a teacher and mentor, but a genuine caring man. It took a special person to control the boys of Oak Harbor, and Mr Sires did just that. I remember how guys would come in during lunch and after school to work on a number of projects- but mainly to listen to Mr Sires help them work through there design of fabrication challanges. I remember having all these grand ideas of things I wanted to make on my own, and it was Mr. Sires who suggested I take a step back and design these items first to work out all the bugs. Advice that I still practice today. I admired all the things Mr. Sires made, which inspried all who took his class to be designers and fabricators ourselfs. Oak harbor School District had a great teacher in Mr.Sires, and Island County had a great man as well. Rest in peace Mr. Sires.
