John Frew Ferguson
John Frew Ferguson (Fergie)

Born February 26, 1939 in St. Andrews, Scotland and passed away June 4, 2018 with family by his side on Whidbey Island, Washington.

John leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Anne, daughter Karen and adored granddaughter Kendall, loved cats Kitkit and Simba as well as relatives in Scotland.

He was preceded in death by his son Iain and sister Elinor.

John grew up in Tayport, Scotland, attended Bell Baxter High School and earned his Bachelors degree in engineering from Dundee University.

His love of airplanes led him to a career as an aerospace engineer, beginning with British Aircraft in Lancashire, England.

In 1966, John and Anne and their young family moved to the Seattle area, where John worked for Boeing for more than 30 years. They resided in Bellevue before moving to Langley, Whidbey Island in 1999.

John's lifelong passion of golf began at a very early age in Scotland. John was an accomplished and respected golfer. He won many championships and set course records. A true highlight for him was qualifying for the British Open in 1959 at Muirfield, Scotland. He was British Boy Champion in 1956 and in 1958 was chosen to play in the Walker Cup trials. His home course of Scotscraig in Tayport, Scotland honored John as a lifetime member in 1990 for his distinguished golf career. John was artistic and enjoyed photography, drawing and magic. He graciously performed a magic show for his granddaugher's birthday party one year.

John and Anne enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to visit many countries in Europe, Africa and Middle East. They became members of Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, upon moving to Whidbey Island, where John enjoyed competitive and social golf with his many golfing buddies. He proudly served as Club President in 2005-2006.

John was a true gentleman and will be fondly missed by all who knew and loved him.
