JAMES FRANKLIN REGISTER
James Franklin Register, 69, of Oak Harbor, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, following a lengthy illness.
Jim was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on August 10, 1948, to Travis and Mary Nollie (Miller) Register. He graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1966 with The Route ‘66ers.
Jim served in the US Army and the Mississippi National Guard from 1967-1994. He retired as an E-8. He also retired from Ingalls Ship Building as a Master Ship Builder with over forty years of service.
Jim is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Pat Haygood Register; one son, Travis Paul and daughter-in-law Cecy Register; his grandchildren: Brody, Kahlen and Zephyr; two sisters, Phyllis (Ernie) Holmberg and Betty (Don) Stringer, both of Mississippi; also, a fishing boat full of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Travis Sr. and Nollie Register; one brother, Travis Jr. and two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Mars and Sylvia Marie Muller.
With his love of fishing, he never met a stranger and was an amazing friend. Jim was known to have a great smile, a sense of humor and a heart of gold. He was a tender hearted, loving and compassionate husband, father and “Papa.” Above all, he loved the Lord.
A Celebration of Jim’s life will take place at the family home in Oak Harbor on Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
